Forgotten dessert that was a hit in the 80s and 90s

This traditional vanilla pound cake is a beloved classic, celebrated for its buttery richness and soft, tender texture. Ideal for afternoon tea or special gatherings, this recipe produces a moist, flavorful cake every time.

Classic Vanilla Pound Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup whole milk, room temperature

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Oven and Pan
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×5-inch loaf pan.

Step 2: Cream Butter and Sugar
In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.

Step 3: Add Eggs and Vanilla
Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

Step 4: Mix Dry Ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.

Step 5: Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients
Gradually add the dry ingredients and milk to the butter mixture, alternating between the two and beginning and ending with the dry ingredients.

Step 6: Bake the Cake
Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and bake for 60–70 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Step 7: Cool and Serve
Allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 15 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely. Slice and serve as desired.
