Deep Dish Apple Crisp

Deep Dish Apple Crisp
This cozy dessert captures everything we love about fall—warm spices, sweet-tart apples, and a golden oat topping that’s crisp on the outside and soft underneath. Serve it warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a comforting, crowd-pleasing treat.

🍎 Ingredients

For the Apple Filling:

IngredientQuantity
Large Granny Smith apples (peeled, cored, sliced)6
Granulated sugar½ cup
All-purpose flour2 tablespoons
Ground cinnamon1 teaspoon
Salt¼ teaspoon
Lemon juice1 tablespoon
Vanilla extract1 teaspoon

For the Crisp Topping:

IngredientQuantity
Old-fashioned oats1 cup
All-purpose flour½ cup
Packed brown sugar½ cup
Ground cinnamon½ teaspoon
Salt¼ teaspoon
Cold unsalted butter, cubed½ cup

👩‍🍳 Instructions

1. Preheat & Prepare
Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

2. Make the Apple Filling
In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples with sugar, flour, cinnamon, salt, lemon juice, and vanilla. Stir well to coat all the apple slices evenly.

3. Build the Base
Pour the apple mixture into your prepared baking dish and spread it out evenly.

4. Prepare the Topping
In another bowl, mix together the oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Add the cold butter cubes and work them into the dry mix using your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

5. Bake
Evenly sprinkle the crumb topping over the apples. Bake for 45–50 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the apple filling is bubbling and tender when pierced.

6. Cool & Serve
Let the crisp cool slightly before serving. Best enjoyed warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a swirl of whipped cream.

✅ Tips for the Best Apple Crisp

  • Use a variety of apples for more depth—try mixing Granny Smith with Honeycrisp or Fuji.
  • Taste your apples first—if they’re very sweet, you can reduce the sugar a bit.
  • For added texture, mix in chopped pecans or almonds with the topping.
  • To keep the topping from over-browning, tent the dish with foil halfway through baking and remove it during the last 10 minutes.
