Amish Hamburger Steak Bake


This Amish-style Hamburger Steak Bake is the ultimate comfort food—simple, satisfying, and full of flavor.
Juicy ground beef patties are browned to perfection and then baked in a rich, creamy mushroom sauce. Ideal for busy nights or when you’re craving something warm and hearty, this dish pairs beautifully with mashed potatoes, buttered noodles, or rice.

For the Hamburger Steaks:

1. Preheat Your Oven
Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

2. Prepare the Patties
In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix until just combined and shape into 4 to 6 patties.

3. Sear the Steaks
Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sear the patties for 2–3 minutes per side, just until browned. Transfer them to the prepared baking dish.

4. Make the Sauce
Using the same skillet, sauté the sliced onions and minced garlic until fragrant and softened. Add the mushroom soup, milk, sour cream, Worcestershire sauce, thyme (if using), and season with salt and pepper. Stir until everything is well combined and heated through, about 2–3 minutes.

5. Assemble and Bake
Pour the creamy sauce evenly over the hamburger steaks in the baking dish. Cover tightly with foil and bake for 30–35 minutes, or until the patties reach an internal temperature of 160°F.

6. Serve and Enjoy
Let the dish rest for a few minutes out of the oven before serving. Serve hot with your favorite sides like creamy mashed potatoes, fluffy rice, or egg noodles.
