Turtle Caramel Cake Recipe

Ingredients

IngredientAmount
Semi-sweet chocolate chips1 cup (plus extra for topping)
Chopped pecans2 cups (plus extra for topping)
Unsalted sweet cream butter, melted¾ cup
Evaporated milk½ cup
Caramel bits1 (11 oz) bag
German chocolate cake mix1 box
Whole milk1 cup
Large eggs3
Canola oil⅓ cup
Chocolate fudge frosting1 container

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Pan
Set your oven to 350°F (175°C). Coat a 9×13-inch baking pan with non-stick cooking spray.
  2. Mix the Cake Batter
In a mixing bowl, use a hand mixer to combine the German chocolate cake mix, canola oil, eggs, and whole milk. Beat until the batter is smooth and well-mixed.
  3. Bake the First Layer
Pour half of the batter into the greased baking pan and spread it evenly. Bake for 15 minutes. Remove and set aside.
  4. Make the Caramel Layer
While the cake is baking, place the caramel bits, melted butter, and evaporated milk in a saucepan. Heat over medium, stirring constantly until the caramel is fully melted and smooth.
  5. Add the Caramel and Toppings
Pour the warm caramel evenly over the baked cake layer. Sprinkle with 1 cup of chocolate chips and the 2 cups of chopped pecans.
  6. Add the Remaining Batter and Bake Again
Carefully pour the remaining cake batter over the top, spreading gently to cover the caramel and toppings. Return the pan to the oven and bake for another 20 minutes.
  7. Cool Completely
Once baked, remove the cake from the oven and allow it to cool fully on a wire rack before adding frosting.
  8. Frost the Cake
Slightly warm the chocolate fudge frosting in the microwave if needed to make it easier to spread. Cover the cooled cake with an even layer of frosting.
  9. Add Final Toppings
Sprinkle additional chocolate chips and pecans over the frosted cake for a delicious finishing touch.

This cake is sure to impress and satisfy every sweet tooth at the table. Whether you’re baking for a holiday, birthday, or just because, this Turtle Caramel Cake brings joy with every bite.
