Old-Fashioned Bologna Salad

This recipe gives a fresh spin to traditional bologna salad—a smooth, creamy spread reminiscent of ham or chicken salad that’s perfect for sandwiches or crackers. It’s affordable, easy to prepare, and surprisingly flavorful. Interestingly, some food historians believe early versions of “ham salad” may have actually been made with bologna.

Best of all, it comes together in minutes. Just a quick whirl in a food processor or blender creates a rich, spreadable mixture ready to serve.

🥪 Traditional Bologna Salad

Ingredients

Sweet pickle relish — ⅓ cup (for a touch of sweetness and tang)
Bologna — 1 pound, cut into chunks
Hard-boiled eggs — 4, roughly chopped
Mayonnaise — ¼ cup (adds smoothness and moisture)

👩‍🍳 Directions

1. Prepare the Eggs

Place the eggs in a saucepan and cover with cold water. Bring to a full boil, then remove from heat and let stand for 10 minutes. Transfer to cool water, peel, and chop coarsely. Add them to a food processor or blender.

2. Add the Remaining Ingredients

Cut the bologna into manageable pieces and add it to the processor with the eggs. Spoon in the sweet pickle relish and mayonnaise.

3. Blend to Desired Texture

Pulse the mixture until it forms a slightly textured, pâté-like spread. Avoid overprocessing if you prefer a bit of texture.

Serve chilled on crackers or spread generously between slices of bread.
