Oven-Braised Beer Brats with Caramelized Onions and Apples
Ingredients:
| INGREDIENT | AMOUNT |
|---|---|
| Olive oil | 2 tablespoons |
| Butter | 2 tablespoons |
| Large onions, thinly sliced | 2 |
| Apples, cored and sliced | 2 |
| Garlic cloves, minced | 3 |
| Bratwursts | 6 |
| Beer | 1 cup |
| Beef broth | 1 cup |
| Dijon mustard | 2 tablespoons |
| Salt and pepper | To taste |
| Fresh parsley (optional) | For garnish |
Instructions:
Step 1: Preheat Oven & Heat Pan
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place a large oven-safe skillet or Dutch oven on medium heat and melt the olive oil with the butter.
Step 2: Sauté Onions and Apples
Add the sliced onions and apples to the pan. Cook, stirring occasionally, until softened and golden brown, about 20–25 minutes.
Step 3: Add Garlic
Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
Step 4: Add Brats and Liquids
Nestle the bratwursts among the onions and apples. Pour in the beer and beef broth so the sausages are mostly covered.
Step 5: Season
Whisk in the Dijon mustard and season with salt and pepper to taste.
Step 6: Braise in the Oven
Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, then transfer the uncovered skillet to the oven. Bake 30–40 minutes, until the bratwursts are fully cooked and have absorbed the flavors.
Step 7: Serve
Garnish with fresh parsley if desired and serve warm.
