Homemade Fried Apple or Peach Pies

Ingredients

  • Dried apples or dried peaches – 8 oz
  • Water – 1 cup
  • Sugar – 1/3 cup
  • Butter – 1 tbsp
  • Cinnamon or apple pie spice – 1 tsp
  • Jumbo refrigerated flaky biscuits – 1 can
  • Vegetable oil – for frying

Optional for Fresh Apple Filling:

  • 4 peeled, cored, and chopped apples
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp lemon juice

Instructions

1. Prepare the Fruit Filling

  • Combine dried fruit and water in a saucepan.
  • Bring to a boil, then reduce heat, cover, and simmer about 30 minutes until tender.
  • Let cool slightly, then mash gently if needed.
  • Stir in sugar and butter, then set aside.

2. Optional Fresh Apple Filling

  • Melt butter in a large skillet.
  • Add chopped apples, sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice.
  • Cook over medium heat for 15 minutes until tender, then mash lightly and let cool.

3. Assemble the Pies

  • Roll each biscuit into a 5-inch circle on a floured surface.
  • Spoon about 1 tbsp of filling onto half of the circle.
  • Moisten edges with water, fold over, and press with a fork to seal.

4. Fry the Pies

  • Pour oil into a skillet or deep fryer to a depth of ½ inch.
  • Heat to 370°F (190°C).
  • Fry pies in batches, turning once, until golden and crisp.
  • Remove and drain on paper towels.

5. Serve

  • Let pies cool slightly to avoid burning from hot filling.
  • Enjoy warm, with optional toppings like ice cream, whipped cream, or caramel sauce.
