Chewy Gooey Bars

These decadent dessert bars feature a tender cake-mix base topped with a luxuriously creamy, sweetened cream cheese layer that’s impossible to resist.

Ooey Gooey Bars

Ingredients (Crust)

  • 1 box yellow cake mix (dry)
  • 8 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 egg

Ingredients (Gooey Layer)

  • 8 ounces softened cream cheese
  • 2 beaten eggs
  • 16 ounces powdered sugar

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat the Oven
Heat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Step 2: Prepare the Crust
Stir together the dry cake mix, melted butter, and egg in a medium bowl until the mixture is smooth. Press it firmly and evenly into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Set aside.

Step 3: Prepare the Gooey Layer
In a separate large bowl, beat the cream cheese until it’s silky. Add in the eggs and mix for another minute. Slowly incorporate the powdered sugar, blending until the mixture is uniform.

Step 4: Bake
Spread the cream cheese mixture over the crust. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until the edges have set but the center still has a slight wobble. Do not overbake.

Step 5: Cool and Slice
Let the bars cool completely before cutting to maintain their signature gooey center.
