This hearty dish pairs bratwursts with onions and apples simmered in beer and broth, finishing in the oven for a rich, comforting meal.

Oven-Braised Beer Brats with Caramelized Onions and Apples

Ingredients:

Butter2 tablespoons
Large onions, thinly sliced2
Apples, cored and sliced2
Garlic cloves, minced3
Bratwursts6
Beer1 cup
Beef broth1 cup
Dijon mustard2 tablespoons
Salt and pepperTo taste
Fresh parsley (optional)For garnish

Instructions:

Step 1: Preheat Oven & Heat Pan
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place a large oven-safe skillet or Dutch oven on medium heat and melt the olive oil with the butter.

Step 2: Sauté Onions and Apples
Add the sliced onions and apples to the pan. Cook, stirring occasionally, until softened and golden brown, about 20–25 minutes.

Step 3: Add Garlic
Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.

Step 4: Add Brats and Liquids
Nestle the bratwursts among the onions and apples. Pour in the beer and beef broth so the sausages are mostly covered.

Step 5: Season
Whisk in the Dijon mustard and season with salt and pepper to taste.

Step 6: Braise in the Oven
Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, then transfer the uncovered skillet to the oven. Bake 30–40 minutes, until the bratwursts are fully cooked and have absorbed the flavors.

Step 7: Serve
Garnish with fresh parsley if desired and serve warm.
