Country Ham Salad

Classic Southern Country Ham Salad
This traditional Country Ham Salad is a Southern favorite that’s packed with savory flavor. Finely minced country ham is blended with creamy mayonnaise, zesty mustard, and a hint of sweetness to create a rich and satisfying spread. Serve it on biscuits, sandwich bread, or alongside crackers for an easy appetizer or lunch. Best of all, it comes together in minutes and is a great way to use leftover country ham.
Ingredients (Serves 4–6)
| Ingredient | Amount |
|---|---|
| Country ham, finely chopped | 2 cups |
| Mayonnaise | ½ cup |
| Dijon or yellow mustard | 1 tbsp |
| Honey or light brown sugar | 1–2 tsp |
| Ground black pepper | ¼ tsp |
Optional Add-Ins
- 1 tbsp sweet pickle relish
- 1 tsp apple cider vinegar
- Finely chopped celery
Helpful Tips
- Choose authentic country ham for the best flavor. Its dry-cured, aged character gives the salad its signature taste.
- Finely chop the ham or pulse it briefly in a food processor to achieve a smooth, spreadable texture.
- Refrigerating the salad before serving allows the flavors to blend and develop.
Directions
1. Prepare the Ham
Finely dice the country ham by hand or pulse it in a food processor until it reaches a finely minced consistency.
2. Make the Dressing
In a mixing bowl, combine the mayonnaise, mustard, honey (or brown sugar), and black pepper. Stir until smooth. If desired, mix in relish, vinegar, or celery for extra flavor and texture.
3. Mix Everything Together
Add the chopped ham to the dressing mixture and stir until evenly coated. Taste and adjust seasonings if needed, keeping in mind that country ham is naturally salty.
4. Refrigerate and Serve
Cover the bowl and chill for at least 30 minutes before serving. Store in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, stirring well before serving.
Enjoy as a sandwich filling, spread on warm biscuits, or served with crackers for a classic Southern snack.
