Alabama-Style Firecrackers

These flavorful crackers are a beloved Southern snack, famous for their spicy kick and savory herb coating. Allowing them to “marinate” overnight lets the seasonings soak in for a deeply seasoned, irresistible treat.

Alabama Firecrackers

Ingredients

IngredientAmount
Saltine or Ritz-style crackers1 box (12 oz)
Olive oil (or avocado oil)¾ cup
Italian seasoning2 tablespoons
Chili flakes (adjust to taste)3 tablespoons

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the crackers
Place the crackers into a large gallon-sized Ziploc bag. Using a bag helps coat them evenly without breaking.

Step 2: Add the oil
Pour the olive oil over the crackers. Seal the bag and gently toss until all crackers are coated and shiny. This helps the seasonings stick.

Step 3: Add the seasonings
Add the Italian seasoning and chili flakes. Reseal the bag and shake several times, flipping as needed to distribute the spices evenly.

Step 4: Marinate overnight
Leave the sealed bag at room temperature overnight. Turn the bag occasionally so the oil and seasoning spread evenly. This allows the flavors to fully infuse without making the crackers soggy.

Step 5: Serve
Enjoy the firecrackers the next day! They’re delicious on their own or paired with a cold beverage to balance the spice.
