How to Make Classic Italian Meatloaf
Preheat: Set the oven to 350°F (175°C). Combine the breadcrumbs and milk in a small bowl and let them soak.
Mix the meatloaf: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef with the soaked breadcrumbs, Parmesan, onion, bell pepper, garlic, parsley, basil, oregano, thyme, salt, pepper, and eggs. Mix gently to avoid compacting the meat.
Shape and place: Form the meat mixture into a loaf and transfer it to a greased baking dish.
Add sauce: Spoon 1/2 cup of marinara over the top of the loaf.
Bake: Bake for 45 minutes.
Top with cheese: Spread the remaining marinara over the loaf and sprinkle with mozzarella.
Finish baking: Bake an additional 15–20 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
Rest and serve: Allow the meatloaf to rest for a few minutes before cutting. Garnish with fresh basil and enjoy.
