This easy, no-fuss dinner delivers deep, bistro-style flavor with minimal prep. The combination of French onion soup and melted Swiss cheese creates a rich, savory sauce that’s delicious served over rice, mashed potatoes, or noodles.

4-Ingredient French Onion Chicken Casserole

Ingredients

  • Boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs – 1½ to 2 pounds
  • Condensed cream of chicken soup – 1 can (10½ ounces)
  • Condensed French onion soup – 1 can (10½ ounces)
  • Shredded Swiss or Gruyere cheese – 1½ cups

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Oven and Dish
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch or similar casserole dish to prevent sticking.

Step 2: Arrange the Chicken
Pat the chicken dry and trim away any excess fat. Place the pieces in a single layer in the prepared dish.

Step 3: Make the Sauce
In a medium bowl, whisk together the cream of chicken soup and French onion soup until smooth. Do not add liquid—the condensed soups will create a thick, flavorful sauce as they bake.

Step 4: Cover the Chicken
Pour the soup mixture evenly over the chicken, ensuring all pieces are well coated and the sauce spreads evenly across the dish.

Step 5: Bake Covered
Cover tightly with foil and bake for 25–30 minutes, or until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F.

Step 6: Add the Cheese
Remove the foil and sprinkle the shredded Swiss or Gruyere evenly over the top. Return to the oven and bake uncovered for 10–15 minutes, until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and lightly golden.

Step 7: Rest and Serve
