Amish Simple Sweetness’—only 3 ingredients, and it disappears faster than I can bake it

This Amish 3-Ingredient Sweet Crumble Casserole—sometimes called a “Dump Cake”—is a simple, comforting dessert. The butter melts over the dry cake mix and fruit, creating a golden, cobbler-like topping that’s impossibly easy and delicious.
Amish 3-Ingredient Sweet Crumble Casserole
Ingredients
- Fruit pie filling (apple, cherry, or peach) – 2 cans (21 oz each)
- Yellow cake mix, dry – 1 box (about 15 1/4 oz)
- Unsalted butter, melted – 3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks)
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare Oven and Pan
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or nonstick spray.
Step 2: Add the Fruit
Pour the pie filling into the prepared dish, spreading it evenly so it reaches all corners.
Step 3: Top with Cake Mix
Sprinkle the dry cake mix evenly over the fruit. Gently level it with a spoon or your hands. Do not stir—keeping the layers separate gives the dessert its signature crumble texture.
Step 4: Pour the Butter
Drizzle the melted butter evenly over the cake mix, covering as much as possible. Some dry spots are fine—they’ll absorb fruit juices during baking.
Step 5: Bake
Place in the oven and bake for 35–45 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the fruit is bubbling around the edges.
Step 6: Rest and Serve
Allow the casserole to cool for 10–15 minutes so the juices thicken and the topping firms. Serve warm, optionally with whipped cream or ice cream.
